Methodology

TrafficoOra aims to show the latest CCISS road notices quickly without inventing precision that the source does not provide.

Acquisition

The primary source is the official public CCISS RSS feed, currently distributing up to 100 recent notices. If RSS is temporarily unavailable, the CCISS homepage latest-traffic list can be used as a fallback. The last valid snapshot is temporarily retained.

Refresh

Cloudflare attempts a refresh about every five minutes. Because CCISS can reject some requests from Cloudflare infrastructure, an independent GitHub Actions fallback also refreshes the official RSS feed about every ten minutes; scheduled jobs can occasionally be delayed. The browser rechecks the TrafficoOra API about every 60 seconds. A provider failure is never interpreted as “no events”.

Exclusive classification

Each notice is assigned to exactly one category: closures, roadworks, breakdowns, incidents, hazards, jams, weather or other. Category counts therefore add up to the total. The original CCISS text remains visible.

Coverage

The feed can include motorways, ring roads, state roads and local streets. Road codes are extracted where available; local notices remain searchable by place and text.

Planned events

A published notice can describe a current disruption or a planned future restriction. TrafficoOra does not infer timing beyond the official text.

No false precision

We do not invent delay minutes, speeds or journey times when the source does not provide suitable measurements.
